THE BIBLE; IT IS WHAT IT IS

THE BIBLE; IT IS WHAT IT IS
By:"ESSDALE WILSON"
Published on 2011-07-01 by iUniverse

The Bible has outsold every other book that was ever written. This book is the filler for what little space that is available. Everyone should own, memorize and apply the contents because: 1. It is reader friendly; a special effort has been put into removing the suffering associated with forced obligatory reading. 2. WHAT IT IS is must reading for those searching for spiritual contact. It is the paradigm for methodology that is practical for those who prefer to do their own research and analysis that all are capable of... About my expertise: I spent years in the field of education. I read the Bible. I also spent many hours researching, reading others efforts, interpretations and speculation. If you did also without others con-trolling your exposure and interpretation, you can not be conned or frightened into zombotic behavior. Nor will you be controlled by those that ignore Bible text because it conflicts with a concocted word independent of the Biblical ingredients. I don’t understand how anyone can be accused of “attacking the Bible” when the only “attack” is directly quoting the text. THE BIBLE IS WHAT IT IS. Is contorting the text the only acceptable method of examining it? Is it acceptable to manufacture conclusions then twist the text to support those conclusions? I’m done and going to bed. I AM WHAT I AM.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story. When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.

Design Process Improvement

Design Process Improvement
By:"John Clarkson","Claudia Eckert"
Published on 2010-03-26 by Springer Science & Business Media

vi The process is important! I learned this lesson the hard way during my previous existence working as a design engineer with PA Consulting Group's Cambridge Technology Centre. One of my earliest assignments involved the development of a piece of labo- tory automation equipment for a major European pharmaceutical manufacturer. Two things stick in my mind from those early days – first, that the equipment was always to be ready for delivery in three weeks and, second, that being able to write well structured Pascal was not sufficient to deliver reliable software performance. Delivery was ultimately six months late, the project ran some sixty percent over budget and I gained my first promotion to Senior Engineer. At the time it puzzled me that I had been unable to predict the John Clarkson real effort required to complete the automation project – I had Reader in Engineering Design, genuinely believed that the project would be finished in three Director, Cambridge Engineering weeks. It was some years later that I discovered Kenneth Cooper's Design Centre papers describing the Rework Cycle and realised that I had been the victim of “undiscovered rework”.I quickly learned that project plans were not just inaccurate,as most project managers would attest, but often grossly misleading, bearing little resemblance to actual development practice.

Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs

Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs
By:"Iain Provan"
Published on 2011-10-11 by Zondervan

The NIV Application Commentary Ecclesiastes/Song of Songs. Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs have always presented particular challenges to their readers, especially if those readers are seeking to understand them as part of Christian Scripture. Ecclesiastes regularly challenges the reader as to grammar and syntax. The interpretation even of words which occur frequently in the book is often unclear and a matter of dispute, partly because there is frequent word-play in the course of the argument. The argument is itself complex and sometimes puzzling and has often provoked the charge of inconsistency or outright self-contradiction. When considered in the larger context of the OT, Ecclesiastes stands out as an unusual book, whose connection with the main stream of biblical tradition seems tenuous. We find ourselves apparently reading about the meaninglessness of life and the certainty of death in a universe in which God is certainly present but is distant and somewhat uninvolved. When considered in the context of the NT, the dissonance between Ecclesiastes and its scriptural context seems even greater; for if there is one thing that we do not find in this book, it is the joy of resurrection. Perhaps this is one reason why Ecclesiastes is seldom read or preached on in modern churches. The Song of Songs (also known as the Song of Solomon) has been read, historically, by Christians, in two primary ways—as a text which concerns the love and sexual intimacy of human beings and as a text which uses the language of human love and intimacy to speak of something else—the relationship between Christ and the church. Christians have often felt that they must choose between these options—that a text about human love and sexual intimacy could not be at the same time a spiritual text. It is one of the challenges of reading the Song to explore how far this is necessarily true and how far Christian readers have been influenced in their reading more by Platonism and Gnosticism than by biblical thinking about the nature of the human being and of human sexuality. Another challenge is to discover whether the Song is really one “song” at all, or simply a haphazard collection of shorter poems cast together because of their common theme of love; and still another is to gain clarity on what, precisely, is the connection between the Song and Solomon. This commentary sets out to wrestle honestly with all the challenges of reading these biblical books—the challenges of reading the texts in themselves, and the challenges of reading them as intrinsic parts of Christian Scripture. Using the standard structure of the NIVAC series, it explores their “original meaning,” the “bridging contexts” that enable their journey to the present, and their “contemporary significance.” In the course of the exploration, these books are seen to be deeply relevant in what they have to say both to the contemporary church and the contemporary culture.

Beyond the Systems Paradigm

Beyond the Systems Paradigm
By:"Luciano L'Abate"
Published on 2013-05-30 by Springer Science & Business Media

\u200bThis monograph owes its origins to the decades-old proposal by David Bakan (1968) about the duality of human experience. He proposed that community and agency would be two necessary and sufficient constructs to classify and to encompass most human relationships. This dichotomy has been found to be valid by a variety of contributions over the last half a century (L’Abate, 2009; L’Abate, Cusinato, Maino, Colesso, & Scilletta, 2010). Additionally, the purpose of this book is to argue and assert that two important fields of psychology, family and personality psychologies, if not already dead are conceptually, empirically, and practically moribund. They are being superseded respectively by perhaps more appropriate, perhaps more specific, and more likely verifiable concepts and constructs, such as intimacy and identity. The traditional family still conceived as composed by two parents and two children of different gender is esponsible for only one fourth of all domiciles in USA. Singles, same-sex couples, and completely different family organization complete the remaining 100%. Difficulties in defining what is personality require a change in perspective and advance toward a comprehensive theory of human relationships that can and should fulfill requirements necessary to achieve an undoubtedly grandiose and ambitious universal status.\u200b

This book is about the innate happiness and joy that can be discovered on awakening by becoming 'Aware of' and 'identifying with' Awareness. This is to be achieved by direct investigation of moment-to-moment experience which readily reveals the Pure Awareness that underlies our existence. This leads to discovering the happiness that needs nothing external to ourselves, but which is revealed as we undertake deeper investigations into this Awareness. Many of the following chapters give the format for some of these and how what is discovered applies to day to day living.

Love Story, With Murders

Love Story, With Murders
By:"Harry Bingham"
Published on 2014-02-18 by Delacorte Press

Harry Bingham’s Talking to the Dead introduced readers to one of the most compelling new heroines in crime fiction, Detective Constable Fiona Griffiths, earning comparisons to Stieg Larsson’s Lisbeth Salander. Now D.C. Griffiths returns to investigate a series of gruesome murders—and their connection to her own shadowy past. D.C. Fiona Griffiths is facing the prospect of a dull weekend when the call comes in, something about illegal dumping in a Cardiff suburb. But when she arrives on the scene she finds, in a garage freezer, a severed human leg, complete with a pink suede high-heeled shoe. South Wales police are able to ID the body part as that of a young woman who went missing five years earlier; a young woman who once made a living as an exotic dancer. All at once, Fiona’s job as a detective and her role as a loving daughter collide: Fiona’s father owns a Cardiff strip club and was once deeply involved in the local crime scene. Still in recovery from a devastating psychotic breakdown, Fiona is wary of exploring a path that might end at her father’s door . . . yet her obsessive approach to criminal investigation leaves her no other option. But Fiona’s specialty is not the living, it is the dead. And as she is just starting to get into the murdered girl’s head, a severed hand is found—and this one is male. Soon, police are swamped with an increasing number of body parts found in and around suburban gardens, sheds, and garages. Media attention is intense, and investigators are working from a list of hundreds of persons of interest. When the department identifies the second victim, Fiona struggles to connect him with the dead stripper. What do the victims have in common? And why this macabre method of disposing the corpses? The answers may be more than Fiona can handle. Because in order to solve the riddle of these hideous murders, D.C. Fiona Griffiths will have to delve into the mysteries of her past—and hope she comes out intact . . . and alive. Praise for Love Story, with Murders “A most intriguing, if peculiar, detective . . . Although his volatile protagonist certainly dominates the first-person narrative, [Harry] Bingham doesn’t stint on plot (very complicated), procedures (very detailed) or action (very brutal). . . . Satisfying.”—Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times Book Review “Love Story, with Murders is a dark delight, and I look forward to Fiona’s future struggles with criminals, her demons and the mysteries of her past.”—The Washington Post “Bingham’s superb second police procedural featuring Det. Constable Fiona Griffiths delivers an even more intense plot and richer character study than his first. . . . Fiona’s past mental problems and her unconventional personality make her a distinctive lead.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review) “Some of the most memorably staccato narration in the genre . . . [Bingham’s] remote, unquenchable heroine makes her stand apart from every one of her procedural brothers and sisters.”—Kirkus Reviews “Compelling . . . [Love Story, with Murders] amply proves the freshness and flair that [Bingham] has brought to the police procedural. . . . Surprisingly delicate, it weaves a sinuous, seductive spell and confirms we have a new crime talent to treasure.”—Daily Mail (UK) “Love Story, with Murders boasts what must be the most startling protagonist in modern crime fiction.”—The Sunday Times (London) From the Hardcover edition.

Real Love. Real Issues. Real Solutions

Real Love. Real Issues. Real Solutions
By:"Johnnie Newkirk Jr."
Published on 2006-03-01 by NewWestMusicPublishingInc

The truth hurts and no one is spared. This is the overriding theme of the new book from Johnnie Newkirk Jr. Brutally honest and thought provoking, Real Love. Real Issues. Real Solutions. strikes at the heart of humanity, a fierce reflection on reality, and a challenge to open our eyes and to cross all barriers all this from one Renaissance man who spares no one as he takes on the minority community, the church, and the politicians. Newkirk speaks from experience and tackles current issues such as terrorism, gay issues, pedophilia and many others with acerbic wit and leaves lasting profundities for the reader to contemplate. This contemporary book of vicious commentaries is a must read. And a lot of what he states can, and is, fairly, substantiated. THE TRUTH BE TOLD Religion is a subject that I dislike to address. But I feel I must do so in the name of fairness. Religion has become a big business, and a profitable one at that. This is not a theory, but indeed a fact. In theory, there is separation of church and state. But in reality, it's a marriage that becomes stronger each and every day. It's not about promoting the message of God. It's about promoting the message, of the messenger, who claims to speak on behalf of God. Oh, what fools we mortals must be, when we lose all sense and rationality. Many priests are, and always have been, sleeping with boys. These priests were/are not only engaging in homosexual and pedophile acts, but were/are also committing statutory rape, by the mere fact that they were/are sexually involved with these under-aged boys. Yet the authorities gave them a pass. Because they're a religious organization. And that was, and still is, their rationalization. But it's all right for the pope, who is the most powerful religious leader in the world, to speak out against marriage between gays, but will not speak out, or take a stand against the immorality and illegality that many of his priests and other church officials are committing from day to day. We are a part of God and God is a part of us. And only in God should we place our trust. Church leaders and politicians are one and the same. It's all about power and money, and that's the name of the game. Deep down inside we all know right from wrong. Anyone who tells you different is only stringing you along. For God lives within each of us, so call on Him in your hour of need. He will never let you down; this I guarantee. The church and religion are institutions that society greatly needs as long as they remain fair and balanced and divorce themselves from politics, power, and greed. When one does not look at things rationally, logically, or ask questions when something doesn't make sense, this is not living by faith, it's living by pure ignorance. God supplied us with a brain to assess things with. When one becomes obsessed with religion and will not question it that person has become fanatical about it. And you will find a lot of these said fanatics sitting right in church. Because, to them, the church is more than just their home, it is also their turf. Fanatics aren't good for the church, religion, or society. They're a threat to all of humanity. The Bible, is a wonderful book, this I totally agree. And I advise everyone to read it, and I do so open-heartedly. There are many different versions of the Bible as you well know. A lot of books were lost or deliberately destroyed. Why? Only God knows. Men said that the words in the Bible came to them directly from God. Who took the dictation and where are the written logs? If no one wrote it down then it's all hearsay. Considering the many different translations that it has undergone and so many books that have been deliberately destroyed, or hidden, what does your common-sense say? The Bible is a wonderful

Modern Love

Modern Love
By:"David Shumway"
Published on 2003-08-01 by NYU Press

“My ideas of romance came from the movies,” said Woody Allen, and it is to the movies—as well as to novels, advice columns, and self-help books—that David Shumway turns for his history of modern love. Modern Love argues that a crisis in the meaning and experience of marriage emerged when it lost its institutional function of controlling the distribution of property, and instead came to be seen as a locus for feelings of desire, togetherness, and loss. Over the course of the twentieth century, partly in response to this crisis, a new language of love—“intimacy”—emerged, not so much replacing but rather coexisting with the earlier language of “romance.” Reading a wide range of texts, from early twentieth-century advice columns and their late twentieth-century antecedent, the relationship self-help book, to Hollywood screwball comedies, and from the “relationship films” of Woody Allen and his successors to contemporary realist novels about marriages, Shumway argues that the kinds of stories the culture has told itself have changed. Part layperson’s history of marriage and romance, part meditation on intimacy itself, Modern Love will be both amusing and interesting to almost anyone who thinks about relationships (and who doesn’t?).

Cursing in America

Cursing in America
By:"Timothy Jay"
Published on 1992 by John Benjamins Publishing

Who uses dirty words? And when? How is the bad language we use reflected in the movies, in the courts, and elsewhere? With Cursing in America, psychologist Timothy Jay presents the first serious and extensive examination of American profanity from a psycholinguistic-contextual point of view. An amazing amount of factual data gathered through several field studies and numerous laboratory-based experiments reveals the relationship between cursing and language acquisition, anger expression, gender stereotypes and offensiveness. Sexual harassment, censorship, language content of film, obscene phone calls and cursing at public schools are some of the topics which are analyzed and related to the data. Word-by-word tables demonstrate the influence that factors such as frequency of occurrence, degree of offensiveness, and gender and age of the speaker have on obscene language usage in America today.
